Eugene Alvarez

Eugene Alvarez, 83 of Westfield, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2023.  Eugene was born September 11, 1939, in Pitrufquen, Chile to the late Alberto and Delmira Alvarez.  He came to the United States in 1960 to attend St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, IN.  He became a Citizen of the United States in 1973.

Eugene retired as Supervisor with the US Postal Service in 2001 after 20 years of service.  He began his career as a photographer and later was an entrepreneur owning various businesses.  He was a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, the Postal Supervisors, National Board of the Ostomy Association and was president for 25 years of the Indiana Chapter of the Ostomy Association.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am Thursday, May 18 at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, where family and friends are invited to gather from 9:00 am until the time of the service.

Eugene was the widower of Irene Grace Alvarez.  He is survived by his son, James E. (wife, Carol) Alvarez; grandchildren, Anthony, Kathryn and Steven Alvarez; stepchildren, Charles Reed, Carol Korth, John Reed, Kathie Rigby, Timothy Reed, Elizabeth Privette; 12 step-grandchildren; 18 step great-grandchildren; siblings, Lalo Alvarez, Zenon Alvarez, Eugenia DeLarze Alvarez.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Marie Goretti Catholic Church.
