Ethel Marie Newman (née Blessing), 88, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on December 9, 1936, in Indianapolis to John and June Blessing, Ethel was a proud graduate of Arsenal Technical High School where she learned to play the steel guitar. She had an avid love for music which is where she met the love of her life, Everett Edward Newman Jr. They were married on September 30, 1955, and built a wonderful life together. She went on to dedicate many years of service as a Human Resources Executive Assistant at Maplehurst Bakeries, where her professionalism, kindness, and steady presence left a lasting impression.
Ethel was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Everett Edward Newman Jr., her parents John and June Blessing, and her son-in-law James Newton.
She is survived by her loving children: Scott (Teresa) Newman, Lori Newton, and Michael (Phyllis) Newman; her cherished grandchildren: Andrew (Ashley) Newman, Sara Newman, Leslie (Charley) Munas, Jeffrey Newman, and David Newman; and her treasured great-grandchildren: Madalynn Newman, Olivia Newman, Preston Garner, and Eden Faucett.
Ethel found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved to travel, especially to the beach, where she delighted in collecting seashells. She had a fondness for casinos, a warm heart for family gatherings, and an unwavering love for those closest to her. Her spirit of adventure, sense of humor, and devotion to family will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Flanner Buchanan – Floral Park. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m., after which Ethel will be laid to rest at Floral Park Cemetery.
