Esther Riedweg

June 13, 1919 — September 4, 2012

Esther Riedweg (nee Esther G. Harms) passed away peacefully in Indianapolis during the early morning of Tuesday September 4th. She was born Esther G. Harms to Meta and John Harms on June 13th, 1919 in Pleasant Plains, Illinois, where she spent the greater part of her childhood and early adulthood. After caring for her ailing father, she moved to Indianapolis to work for the Associates, and later met her future husband Edmund W. Riedweg; they were married on April 4th, 1948, a matrimony which lasted an amazing sixty years and which produced three girls, Deborah, Janet and Susan. While raising her children, she was very active in volunteer work, such as Helping Hands, Brownies, Girl Scouts, American Red Cross and Opportunity House, as well as various church activities. She was a devout Lutheran her entire life, a member and consistent attendee of Faith Lutheran Church in Bloomington for almost forty years and most recently Advent Lutheran Church in Zionsville. Esther will be remembered not only as a loving wife and mother, but also for the great humility and altruism with which she cared for others throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund, her sisters Clara Schmidt and Frieda Trimble, and her brothers Walter and Jacob Harms. She is survived by her sister, Ruth Dautenhahn of Rochester, Illinois; her daughters and son-in-law, Deborah Riedweg, Susan Riedweg, Janet and John Bergman; grand-children, Jessica (Matthew) Zickler, Evan (Ashley) Bergman, Emma Bergman and Jean-Paul Riedweg Rouas; and her two great grand-children, Isaiah and Eliana Zickler and numerous nieces and nephews. The viewing will take place on Thursday, September 6th, at 3pm at Advent Evangelical Lutheran Church in Zionsville with a 4pm service to follow. Interment services will be at Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington, Indiana by Pastor Lawrence Mitchell at 11 am on Friday, Sept. 7th. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions can be made to Advent Evangelical Lutheran Church, 11250 N. Michigan Rd. Zionsville, IN 46077.
