Esther Bernice Nolley,
92, of Speedway, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at IU-West Hospital in Avon. She was born on July 20, 1921 in Greene County, IN to Charles and Mary (Ritter) Hamlin. Esther was a 1939 graduate of Worthington High School.
During WWII, she worked on the Norden Bombsight at Lucas Harold, Inc. in Indianapolis. After the war, she went to work with Eli Lilly, retiring in 1985. Following her retirement she moved to Corpus Christi, TX, where she resided until last year. Esther loved to read fiction novels and grow flowers and vegetables in her garden. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking and playing scrabble.
Esther is survived by her daughter, Doris Anne (Lee) Shafer; sisters, Hildred McGhee Wolfe and Carol (Cletus) England; grandchildren, Stephanie, Karen, Julie, William, Andy, Celia, Cary; 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews; and her very special Texas friends, U.L. and Melody McNeil and Helen Hubler. Esther was preceded in death by her husband, William V. Nolley; son, Gary B. Nolley; daughter, Janet Sue (Nolley) Trinder; brothers, Manfreid, Fredrick and Maurice Hamlin.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Flanner and Buchanan-Speedway on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 2pm. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
