Ervil Randolph -Randy- Noel

ErvilRandolph (Randy) Noel, 95, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on April 8,2016.

Bornin Pendleton, Indiana, on June 12, 1920, Randy was a football and baseballletterman at Ball State University, where he still holds the school recordsince 1941 for the most strikeouts thrown in one game. After the war he resumedhis education at Purdue where he continued his football and baseballcareers. After graduation he was drafted by the New York Yankees in 1948and played on their minor league team for one year, before pursuing anengineering career.

Randywas a decorated WWII veteran, attaining the rank of captain in the Army. Heparticipated in the invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. Many thanks to the Indy Honor Flight organization for providing him theopportunity to visit the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Witha degree from Purdue University’s School of Electrical Engineering, Randyco-founded Noel-Smyser Engineering Corp. in 1956. The company just celebrated60 years and employs second- and third-generation family members.

Randywas actively involved with coaching youth football, baseball, andwrestling. He served as President of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis CYOand was honored with the St. John Bosco Award in 1972. He was a longtime,active member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and past President of the Serra Club of Indianapolis for priest vocations. He was an avidgolfer, playing until last year, and an unwavering Purdue fan, attending gamesas recently as last month.

Aboveall, Randy was a loving husband, devoted father, steadfast friend, andfaithful, humble servant of God.

Randyis survived by his wife of 63 years, Rita (Andrea) Noel; his children Michael(Barbara), Peter (Patty), Jeffrey (Laura), Gregory (Debbie), JoanKinnaman (Brian), and John (Laura); 19 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his siblings, Sherman and Doris, and grandson,Adam.

Thefuneral service will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church at10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, with visitation at Flanner Buchanan,Washington Park North on Friday, April 15, from 4 – 8 pm. In lieu offlowers, memorial contributions may be made to CYO or St. Michael’s.

The Noel family would like to sincerely thank all the caregivers at theBarrington, Carmel where he and Rita resided for the past year.
