Mrs. Ernestine Bibbs was born on November 27, 1924 in Uniontown, Alabama to the late John Smith, Sr. and Mamie Fields Smith. She was the oldest daughter of their twelve children (7 daughters and 5 sons). Her husband of 56 years, Bennie Bibbs, Sr., two sons, Ralph Bibbs and Bennie Bibbs, Jr., as well as four brothers and two sisters preceded her in death. Ernestine worked at various cleaners in the Indianapolis area as an expert presser. Ernestine's passion was cooking and gardening, both of which countless of us enjoyed her happiness was in watching others enjoy her cooking.
Ernestine accepted God's gift of salvation by professing her belief in the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Ebenezer Baptist Church for many years under Pastor James Earl King and Greater Northwest Baptist Church under the pastorate of Pastor Claude B. Robinson until her death.
Mrs. Ernestine Bibbs departed this life on Monday, November 30, 2015 at the Abbie Hunt Bryce Home. Ernestine is survived by two daughters, B. Louise Swanson (Michael) and Beverly A. Maharry (Eugene), and two sons, John Bibbs, and Richard Bibbs (Gloria). Ernestine also leaves behind twelve grandchildren, Randy Ballard (Sally), Melvin Ballard, Joby Ballard, Jonathan Swanson, Steven Swanson, Montel Swanson, Melanie Bibbs, Kyle Bibbs (Brett), Dana Bibbs, Ayanna Maharry, Nichelle Maharry, and Eugene Maharry, Jr.; eleven great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Ernestine leaves behind four sisters and one brother, nieces, nephews, other relatives, her church family and a host of friends.
