Ernest Roland 'Ron' Forrester

Ernest Roland "Ron" Forrester, 91, of Indianapolis, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2014. He was born on January 12, 1923 in Plainfield, NJ to Eric and Edith (Williams) Forrester. Ron enrolled in the U.S. Navy Flight Training Program in 1942 and upon graduation, married Annetta Jean Van Steenberg, a marriage which endured until her death in May of 1983. As a WWII Naval Aviator, he spent several post war years in the Naval Reserve at NAS Glenview, IL. Following graduation in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University in 1950, Ron worked for 33 years at Allison Division, GMC, retiring in 1983 as a Senior Research and Design Evaluation Engineer. He was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church, Peru-Miami Lodge 67 F &AM, Ancient Accepted Rite, Murat Shrine, American Legion Post 500 and Scientech Club. Survivors include his loving wife, Margaret (Blatz) Forrester; children, Pamela Kay Forrester, Roland Craig (Jean) Forrester, Jeanne (David) O'Donnell, Kenneth E. Newman, Peggy (Doyle) Herrod, Cynthia (David) Grenoble; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Ron is also survived by his brother, Bruce Forrester and sister, Elaine Smith. In addition to his parents and his first wife, Annetta Jean; Ron was also preceded in death by a son, Stephen Newman and sister, Dorthea Lotker. Visitation for Mr. Forrester will be held at Flanner and Buchanan – Speedway on Thursday, May 1, 2014 from 4 until 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday morning at 11am in St. Christopher Catholic Church, with visitation at the church 1 hour prior to the service. Entombment will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital through the Murat Temple or to St. Christopher Catholic Church.
