Erich Haupt

Erich Haupt, 87, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2026.

He was born on December 15, 1938, in Wiesbaden, Germany, to Fritz A. Haupt and Rosa M. Schaefer.

Erich was a dedicated and skilled painter, proudly serving as a member of Painters Local 47 for over 50 years. Through his hard work and commitment, he built a career defined by craftsmanship, reliability, and pride. He continued working until his retirement in 2001, always motivated by his deep sense of responsibility to his family.

Above all, Erich was a devoted husband, father, and provider. He shared an extraordinary 66-year love story with his beloved wife, Meta E. (Neumann) Haupt—a rare and beautiful bond that stood the test of time and served as an inspiration to all who knew them. Their life together was rooted in love, loyalty, and unwavering support.

Erich also had a deep love for soccer—if there was a game on, you could be sure he was watching. It was one of the simple joys that brought him great happiness throughout his life.

He is survived by his loving wife, Meta; his sons, Walter E. Haupt and Kurt T. Haupt; three grandchildren, Richard Haupt, Travis Haupt, and Berlynn Haupt; and one great-grandchild, Travis Gunner Haupt; and many cherished memories shared with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Arthur D. Haupt.

Erich will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his quiet strength, and his deep devotion to those he loved. His legacy lives on in the family he worked so hard to provide for and in the enduring love he shared with his wife.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Flanner Buchanan - Decatur Township, located at 5463 Kentucky Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46221.

An additional visitation will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM - also at Flanner Buchanan - Decatur Township.

His funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM.

Burial will follow at West Ridge Park Cemetery in Indianapolis.
