Indianapolis, Indiana – Elsie Lytle, 91, passed away peacefully at home on March 5, 2024. Elsie was born on January 25, 1933, in Indianapolis to John & Vita (Eggers) Smith.
Elsie worked for many years as an office manager for John Hancock Insurance Company, eventually retiring to run Lytle Fish Delivery with her beloved husband Herman. They remained devoted until his passing on March 4, 2002.
Tiny but mighty, Elsie was used to getting her way. She spearheaded the Lawrence recycling drive and was honored by both the city and President George H.W. Bush for her work. She had the fearlessness of a woman who loved to water ski but couldn’t swim.
When at home though, Elsie loved to bake for her family, especially chocolate chip cookies. She loved to garden, taking care of her roses, snow birding in Florida, and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents and beloved husband Herman, Elsie is preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Ann Webb (Mark).
Elsie is survived by her son, John Lytle (Rose); grandchildren Michael A. Lytle (Rachel), Christina Freeman, Blake Lytle (Donyelle), Steven Webb, and Ashley Webb; many great-grandchildren as well as her beloved nephews Rick and Ron Smith, and niece Becky Smith.
Services will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East (10722 East Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana) at 2 pm with Loral Tansy presiding. Entombment will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery.
