Elsie Collins

Elsie Beth Collins, 95, passed away peacefully on March 11th, 2026. She was born in Bath, Kentucky on January 21st, 1931 to Jonah and Loretta Moore.

Elsie, a wise, self-educated woman, grew up in Kentucky. In 1945, she married the love of her life, Jack Dempsey Collins and at a young age they moved to Indianapolis and shared many wonderful years together before he passed away October 1, 2006, with her by his side.

Elsie worked hard to achieve her GED as an adult. For many years she worked as a proofreader for Howard W Sams and Co. before retiring to be a homemaker and caretaker of the family, her most important career.

Elsie was a loving woman with a heart of gold. She adored her family and was proud to be called “Gam” by everyone, family or not. She found comfort in her faith and taking care of her family. Elsie loved to sit outside to enjoy the fresh air and bask in the sunshine. She was an inspiring, intelligent, witty woman with a sense of humor that could catch you off guard. Elsie used her love language for all in her giving, nurturing and caring ways to all who were fortunate enough to know her. She enjoyed cooking, nature, gardening, sewing, reading and spending time with her family.

Elsie is survived by her brothers, JB Moore and Jack Moore, Children, Bill Collins, (June Collins), Trish Brown, Fred (Junko) Collins, Jerry (Janice) Collins. 11 Grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters, brothers and many others she loved dearly.

To know Elsie was a gift and her memories will live on in all the hearts that she touched.

Visitation for Elsie will be Saturday March 21st, at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East from 12-2pm. Her funeral will begin at 2pm. She will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery.
