Eloise Coppock Jean, died peacefully on June 17, 2015, at Worthington Place, her longtime residence in Camby, Indiana. She was just a few weeks shy of her 101st birthday. She was born on July 28, 1914 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Eloise's father Lester Coppock and mother Edna East had three children. Her mother died of influenza during the epidemic of 1919, and Eloise was raised by her maternal grandmother and grandfather, Clara and Ed East, in Worthington, Indiana. Having skipped two grades, she graduated early from Worthington High School in 1931. Eloise worked at the Worthington Post Office and attended Butler University before she married Harlan Dwight Jean of Worthington in 1935. They moved to Indianapolis to find work during the throes of the Great Depression. In 1950 the young couple moved from an apartment in Indianapolis to a small house with acreage in greater metropolitan Camby where they raised their two sons. Eloise served as a room mother and was PTA President during the boys' time at West Newton Elementary. She and Harlan were longtime members of Camby Community Church, where she participated in the Ladies Aid Society, and they were very active in the Decatur Township Lions Club. After the boys went away to college, she worked as a deputy assessor for the Decatur Township Assessors Office. She loved animals and the list of her cats and dogs is a long one. Eloise loved books and was a voracious reader. She was a life member of the Book Lovers Club of Decatur Township. The many words she absorbed made her a Scrabble champion into her final days. Her prowess at growing African violets was well known, too, and brought her much pleasure, as did cooking and baking. She always showed a keen interest in people, and she is loved and remembered by family, friends, and caregivers. She is survived by son Fred and his wife Rose of Mooresville have three daughters. Rachel is married to Dennis Byrne, and they have three sons, Emerson, Ethan, and Eric. Sarah is married to Mark Munro, and has daughter Sophie. Holly is married to Brendan Steider, and they have son Adam and daughter Pamela. Son, Dan and his wife Carlene of San Antonio, Texas, have a son, Andrew. Eloise took great pride and enjoyment from her sons, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Eloise was preceded in death by her husband Harlan who passed away in 1983; Her father, Lester Coppock, mother Edna, and brothers Edward and Howard also predeceased her. Visitation will be held June 19, 2015 at Flanner and Buchanan - Decatur, 5463 Kentucky Avenue in Indianapolis, from 4pm until 8pm. A family graveside service will be held at her final resting place, Pleasant Bethel cemetery in Worthington, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be offered to the American Heart Association, the Indianapolis Humane Society, or the Exotic Feline Rescue Center.
