Elnora Holmes
Born May 14, 1925 in Mecca, Indiana. Graduated from Indiana State University in 1947, with a Business Education degree. Married John J. Holmes, of Terre Haute, on December 27, 1947. They raised their family in Indianapolis.
Member of Delta Epsilon Sorority, teacher of English, administrative secretary for the Indianapolis Public Schools, president of St. Pius X PTO, scout leader, docent for Indianapolis Civic Theater, loyal member of Christ the King Catholic Church.
Elnora's first love was family and friends. She modeled endless consideration, thoughtfulness, generosity and kindness with an open door policy for all, taking special pride in being a "doting grandmother". A lifelong learner herself, she encouraged and supported the interests and activities of her husband, children and grandchildren. Elnora's legacy is graced with memories of the loving light which shone through her gentle eyes and an infectious smile that warmed the hearts of all who knew her.
She is survived by: husband of 67 years, John (Jack) Holmes, daughters Carol (Paul) Forbes and Kathy (Mike) Sheek, and predeceased by son John Michael Holmes. Grandchildren include: Jason, Amanda and Matt Holmes, April Mahaffey, Robin Houdek, Alicia Parrish and Erin, Kevin and Matt Sheek and their families.
A visitation for Elnora will be on Friday Nov. 27, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Flanner and Buchanan-Broad Ripple, 1305 E. Broad Ripple Ave. and a Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday Nov. 28, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. in Christ the King Catholic Church, 1827 Kessler Blvd. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to The Little Sisters of the Poor in Indianapolis, or to the charity of your choosing.
