Elmer Shortz

Elmer John Shortz, Jr. age 92, longtime Zionsville resident, passed away March 31, 2013. He was born November 5, 1920 in Medaryville, IN to the late Elmer John and Gladys Cinderella (Ballard) Shortz. Elmer was a graduate of Medaryville High School, where he met his wife of 66 years, Rosemary Harris Shortz. They married on May 3, 1946. Elmer honorably served his country with the United States Army. He worked in maintenance for the Zionsville School Corporation. Elmer is survived by his wife, Rosemary; children William E. Shortz, Elaine Wilson (Charles), Ed Shortz (Jeanne), and Sally Ann Shortz; grandsons Mark Shortz(Megan) and Tom Wilson (Leslie); and two great grandchildren, Charlie and Betsy. He is also survived by his sister Joann Birdzell. Elmer was preceded in death by his sister Betty Doud. Visitation will be Friday, April 5, 2013 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Salem United Methodist Church, where he was a member. Funeral services will be at 11:00. Burial will follow in Medaryville, IN at White Post Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Salem United Methodist Church, 6701 S. County Road 800 E., Zionsville, IN 46077.
