Ellen Elizabeth Kleine, 67, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 16, in Indianapolis.
She was born May 1, 1947, the second child of Richard Edward and Elizabeth Louise (Cox) Kleine, in Gary, Indiana. She attended St. Mary's of the Lake grade school, and was a graduate of Andrean High School, Class of 1965. She was also a graduate of Locklear Business College.
After high school, Ellen joined the US Army, where she served from 1965-1969. Her duties stationed her at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC. She also served with the Army Reserve for several decades, advancing to the rank of Master Sergeant.
She worked for a Dr. Cooper in Gary, then for the Army as a staff administration assistant, first in Minneapolis, MN, and then at Ft. Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis, retiring in 2007. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church.
Ellen was a beloved mother, sister, and aunt, and friend, who rarely had an unkind word to say about anyone. She enjoyed the beach, writing poetry, solving word puzzles, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was dearly loved by her family, and will be missed beyond words.
She is survived by her two children, Albert Kleine and Amy Kleine Carr and her husband Sylvester of Indianapolis. She leaves five grandchildren: Maliq, Jaida, Aniyah, and Eliana Carr, and Tourain-Mai Kleine, all of Indianapolis; and one step-grandson, Jemier Carr of Detroit.
She is also survived by three brothers, Robert William Kleine of Indianapolis, Kevin James Kleine of Spencer, and Jerome Frederick Kleine of Indianapolis; one sister, Rebecca Marie Cecil of Oklahoma; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Ellen is preceded in death by her father (1982), her mother (2005), her older brother Richard Edward Kleine II (1951), and her younger siblings Jeffrey Donald Kleine (2001), Joann Lynn Allen (2005), and Patricia Ann Kleine (2007).
Goodbye, Ellen. It has been a long and treasured journey with you in this life, from the golden sandy beaches of Miller up to the North Country and back to the heart of Hoosierland. May you rest in peace.
