Elizabeth Anne Erath

Elizabeth Anne Erath, 75, of Carmel passed away peacefully February 23, 2024.  She was born February 25, 1948, in Shelbyville, Indiana the daughter of the late Theodore J. Jr. and Joye Elizabeth (Lawson) Lettelleir.  She married Donald R. Erath on June 23, 1973. 

Elizabeth Anne attended St. Mary of The Woods College in Terre Haute, Indiana where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in English, graduating summa cum laude. She later continued her studies pursuing a Master’s Degree at Butler University in Indianapolis. Liz had a fulfilling career teaching in Indiana at Ft. Wayne Community Schools, Indianapolis Public Schools, and at Carmel Clay Schools. 

Liz enjoyed traveling with the love of her life, Don, and spending time with her family.  She was a wonderful cook who often hosted family gatherings and holiday celebrations. Liz was a loving caretaker who always found creative ways to express her love. She was a thoughtful gift giver and her gift wrapping skills were second to none. Her packages always looked so beautiful. She loved to read. You could often find Liz with a book in front of the window, enjoying the sun on her face.

She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Donald Erath; five children, Amy (Michael) Recinto, Nancy (Jim) Joyce, Bill (Shanna) Erath, Jim Erath, and Donny (Melissa) Erath; 11 grandchildren, Catherine, Ellie, J.J., Kyle, Kimmy, Kody, Kayleigh, Braiden, Addison, Braelyn, and Kaden; and her brother, John (Diane) Lettelleir.  She was preceded in passing by her sister, Mary Louise Lettelleir. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 10655 Haverstick Road, with the Eulogy to be given at 10:15 a.m.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Flanner Buchanan – Carmel, 325 East Carmel Drive, with the Rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m.  Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
