Elizabeth "Betty" Jeanne Sipole (nee Dickson)
Age 95, was born in Indianapolis, IN to William B. and Eva McCloy Dickson. She died on March 3, 2013. A lifetime resident of Indianapolis, Betty graduated from Shortridge High School. In 1940, she married Elwood P. Sipole who preceded her in death in 2006. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Robert Dickson.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She was active in her church and civic groups throughout her life. She was a retired employee of Indianapolis Public Schools.
Betty was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Irvington Presbyterian Church. She was active in the PEO, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra Association, Embroiderers' Guild, Irvington Chorale, Purdue and Oasis Choirs, and Crossroads Guild. Betty was an avid sports fan. She loved to spend time with family and friends, play games, travel, sing, and create needlework art.
Betty is survived by a son, Alan (Layne) Sipole; daughter, Valerie (Jay) Thompson; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Katherine Dickson Hamel, three nephews and a niece.
Betty's smile, her caring spirit, and her support and love will be deeply missed by family and friends. A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2013 from 12-3 PM with a memorial service at 3:00 PM at Flanner and Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington Street. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Irvington Presbyterian Church, 55 Johnson Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46219 or Easter Seals Crossroads, 4740 Kingsway Dr., Indianapolis, IN 46205.
