Elizabeth "Beth" L. Debard

February 6, 1934 — July 4, 2023

Westfield, Indiana

With sadness, love, and profound gratitude, the family of Elizabeth “Beth” L. DeBard (nee Bryant) announced her passing on July 4, 2023 at 89 years old.

After growing up in Detroit, Michigan, Beth spent the majority of her life in Indianapolis, Indiana, and her work focused on the medical administration field.

Beth was the mother of 4 children (Joel, Scott and Dan McLaughlin and Katie McLaughlin Walsh ) and 3 step-children (Dan Debard, Sarah Witt and Laura Brown).  She had 13 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Her legacies are focused on building and supporting a loving family and her faith.

She had a boundless capacity to love; she was a rare soul, inclusive and non-judgmental to all.  As her family grew so did her love for each new member, up to the last month of her life when she showed interest in her newborn great grandson.   She travelled from coast to coast to cheer her family on, show interest and listen.  Whether one of the major joys-and-sorrows or the mundane moments of life, she made it a priority to be there for them. Her genuine interest in others and caring was a palpable force in the lives of all who knew her.

Beth was an active member of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Carmel where she established Prayer Partners, was a member of Daughter’s of the King, and a long-time member of the Wednesday Book Study Group.  She spent time with children’s religious education and more. Her faith was steadfast as was her belief in the power of prayer.  Faith and strength of spirit belied her fragile appearance and it held her through the ups and downs of her life, especially in her last days.

She was preceded in passing by her first husband Thomas J. McLaughlin and by her second husband of 33 years, Colonel Robert L DeBard.  She was the last remaining member of her family of origin and survived by all of her children.

Funeral is at Saint Christopher’s Episcopal Church on Monday July 10th at 11:30 am, with the visitation starting at 10:30 am.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Saint Christopher’s or St. Vincent Foundation Cardiovascular Research Fund.

Arrangements were entrusted to Flanner Buchanan – Carmel.  Online condolences may be shared by visiting www.flannerbuchanan.com.
