ELIZABETH ANN CLARK CULLISON
December 29, 1933 – March 2, 2022
Elizabeth Ann (Clark) Cullison of Danville, IN, passed away on March 2, 2022, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Elizabeth (88) was surrounded by her loved ones at home. She was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who loved deeply.
Elizabeth was the oldest of six children born to Edwin Frazier Clark and Mary Ethel (Arburn) Clark on December 29, 1933. She graduated from Warren Central High School where she earned membership into the National Honor Society and received recognition for speed typing and shorthand.
Following graduation, Elizabeth worked for the Army Finance Center at Fort Harrison. On March 14, 1953, she married her childhood sweetheart Lowell (Lucas) Cullison. Two days prior to their wedding, Lowell was drafted into the Army and reported for service ten days after their wedding. Although physically separated for the next two years their love and commitment did not wavier. They would have celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on March 14, 2022.
Her life was full of love, laughter, and adventure. Elizabeth loved reading. She taught her grandchildren the joy of books and the wonders you could learn at the library. She had a great sense of humor and shared funny movies with everyone she could. Elizabeth’s adventures included bicycling, motorcycle riding, camping, canoeing and other outdoor activities. When Elizabeth turned fifty, she became an avid bicyclist. She joined the Central Indiana Bicycling Club (CIBA) and for twenty consecutive years she rode in the club’s annual Hilly-Hundred Bicycle Ride. At age 75, Elizabeth became the third oldest person to complete the ride. In 2001, Lowell and Elizabeth rode 499 miles, in ten days, across Central Florida from the Gulf Coast to the Atlantic and back again. Elizabeth completed her “Century” of one hundred miles in one day on a ride from South Bend to Indianapolis.
Elizabeth was a gifted seamstress. She used her skills to establish “Creative Sewings” by Elizabeth, specializing in custom draperies and window coverings. During her twenty-five years of business Elizabeth created custom designs for individual homes, business, and the Decorators’ Show House.
Elizabeth, affectionately known as “Mem” took great joy in spending time with her family and attending all of her grandchildren’s many events. She will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her husband Lowell, children Marcia (John) Simmonds, Cheryl Cullison, Steven (Rhonda) Cullison, Michael (Theresa) Cullison, grandchildren Brandon (Marli) Piercy, Brooke (Justin) Wall, Amber (Rashawn) White, Derek (Jordan) Cullison, Nikki (Luke) Egenolf, Ashleigh (Adam) Ruddell, Hunter (Corey May) Cullison and great-grandchildren Emerson & Evie Piercy, Audrey, Addy & Alivia Wall, Kristopher, Rayden, Avaya, Willow & Hazel White, Everett, Forrest, Watson & June Cullison, Lucas & Emery Ruddell, Reagan & Leanna Cullison.
The family wishes to extend a special Thank You to both Dr. Kathrine Colteryahn of IU Health and to the Heart-to-Heart Hospice Foundation. As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to the Heart-to-Heart Hospice Foundation (htohhfoundation.org) in the name of Elizabeth Cullison.
