Eleanor J. Phillips Sweeney

December 6, 1924 — February 18, 2011

Eleanor J. Sweeney age 86, was called home on Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, to be joined with her Heavenly Father and dearly departed loved ones. She was born on Dec. 6, 1924, to Ima Lucille Minton and John Ellis Phillips in South Pittsburgh, Tenn. She was the eldest of nine children. She was married on March 06, 1947, to John Thomas Sweeney. With a son from a previous marriage, Joseph Golan Haynes, Jr., they formed a family to include sons, Jesse Thomas (Cris) Sweeney and Robert Terry (Susan) Sweeney; daughter, Tonya Lynne Sweeney Kelley; a total of four children, creating 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and three Great-great-grandchildren. She lived in Greenfield for many years where her children attended schools, before moving to Indianapolis in her later life. She was the owner of Judy’s Country Kitchen in Beech Grove for many years. She was also a lifelong member of the Country Music Association sharing her love for country music well into her seventies. She is preceded in death by both parents; husband; son, Joseph; grandson, Jason Daniel Finley; great-grandson, John Cecil Kelley; and siblings, Dorothy and Johnny. She was loved by many, and will be sadly missed. Visitation will be held from12 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011, at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center-Washington Park East, 10722 E.
