Eldon "Ed" L. Gillespie
Of Speedway, passed away on Friday, Oct. 14, 2011 at the age of 93. Ed was born on June 9, 1918 in Van Wert, Ohio.
After graduation from Cedarville University, Ed Served in the grade of Captain with the U.S. Army Air Corps, Pacific Theater. After WW II, he returned home and worked with the U.S. Postal Service. Later he began a twenty-five year career with various divisions of General Motors.
He is survived by sons, Dennis Gillespie of Canyon Lake, TX and Jeffrey Gillespie of Bellevue, WA. Grandchildren, Leslie Lunney, Valdosta, GA, Griffin & Ashley Gillespie, Bellevue, WA, brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Frances Gillespie, Vandalia, OH, sister-in-law Alma Sunderland, Martinsville, VA, great grandchild Rhett Lamb and several nieces and nephews. Ed had a wonderful caregiver, Angela Knight and a wealth of good friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-five years, Alta "Ginny" Gillespie.
He was lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the American Veterans Organization and the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Indiana.
A memorial services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 22and at 2 pm with calling one hour prior at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center-Speedway, 2950 N. High School Rd. Following the memorial service, friends and neighbors are invited to stop by AMVETS, Post 99, 2840 Lafayette Rd. to celebrate Ed's life starting at 3 PM. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to AMVETS or the VFW.
