Edward D. Weems, affectionately known as "Ed," passed away too soon on September 25, 2025, in Indianapolis, Indiana, leaving behind a legacy of love, integrity, and kindness that touched everyone that had the honor of knowing him. Born on January 10, 1946, in Hughes, Arkansas, Ed embodied sincerity, warmth, and a steadfast spirit that endeared him to family, friends and colleagues alike.
A devoted member of his community, Ed dedicated many years of his life to serving as the Team Lead Supervisor for Whirlpool Ryder company. His strong work ethic, leadership, and unwavering commitment to excellence earned him deep respect and admiration from those he worked alongside. His sense of duty extended beyond his career, as he also served his country with honor in the United States Army -a proud reflection of his patriotism and devotion.
Ed’s educational journey began at Horace Mann High School in Little Rock, where he laid the foundation for a life marked by integrity, perseverance, and purpose.
Out of all his accomplishments, Ed greatest joy was his family. He was blessed to share over 23 years of companionship with beloved partner, Beverly Burpo. Their love story began at work, sparked by a lighthearted conversation about breakfast, and blossomed into a partnership filled with laughter, devotion, and countless cherished memories. Together, they built a beautiful life surrounded by love.
He was a proud father to Shun Radford and her husband David Radford, and to Shannon Taylor and her husband Larry Taylor. Ed was equally proud of his grandchildren- Daimien Weems, Sierra White, Shamar White, and Dorian Radford- and found endless delight in his great-granddaughter, Amiyah Shelton. His devotion to family also extended to his love of dogs, who were constant sources of joy in his home.
Known for his honesty and straightforward nature, Ed was never afraid to speak his mind, yet he carried himself with gentleness and a warm heart. His personality shone brightly, making him a wonderful grandfather, companion and friend.
In his leisure, Ed enjoyed life’s simple pleasures: a good drink to unwind, casting a line at Patoka Lake or the White River, or relaxing to the smooth sounds of jazz, blues, and old-school Motown classics. These moments reflected the joy he found in both simplicity and tradition.
Ed is preceded in death by his loving parents, Bennie and Celeste Weems, his sister Viola Harris, and his brother Don Weems and his grandson David Radford Jr.
Ed is survived by his companion, daughters, grandchildren, great grandchild and along with a host of extended family and friends who will continue to honor his memory and carry forward his legacy of love, strength, and devotion.
