Edward Nelson McCabe, born August 15, 1947 in Pontiac, Illinois, died January 3, 2024 in Westfield, Indiana. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Connie, for 56 years. He is survived by his son, Brian McCabe of Auburn, AL, and daughter Amy Henry (husband Jake Henry) of Westfield, IN. Ed greatly enjoyed spending time with his three granddaughters, Emma Henry, Ariana McCabe, and Cora Henry. He is also survived by siblings Frances (John) Bishop, Cheryl (David) Etherton, David (Linda) McCabe, and Boni McCabe. Preceding him in death were his parents Jeanette and Richard McCabe.

Ed served as Junior Class President at LeRoy High School, then changed schools and graduated from Normal Community High School in 1965. He was active in 4-H, an officer in Future Farmers of America, and was honored with the Illinois State Farmer Degree. He graduated from Illinois State University in 1969 with a BS in Science and Agriculture. Ed was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho social & professional fraternity. He was passionate about agriculture from a very young age, and was a self-employed farmer, working alongside his father raising grain and livestock from 1972-1999. He was also a branch manager for a fertilizer & chemical company, a national association farm manager, and principle real estate broker. He was a member of the Indiana Certified Crop Advisor Board, a member of Indiana Farm Bureau, and a Director of Jasper County Coop. In 2003, Ed was featured on the cover of the Indiana Prairie Farmer magazine. In 2007, Ed served as president of the Indiana Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers. Ed was active in the church and in the community. He was an elder in the First United Presbyterian Church of LeRoy, and a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, and later Covenant Church in West Lafayette. He was a member of the International Association of Lion’s Club, International Masonic Association, a lifetime member of the Illinois Order of Odd Fellows, and a member of the Kiwanis Club of Lafayette.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Friday February 16, 2024, at Flanner Buchanan-Hamilton Memorial Park (Prairie Waters), 4180 Westfield Road, Westfield, IN 46062. Visitation will be held from 2pm (Eastern) until the time of service. Ed requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Indiana.
