Edward Marmion

E. Michael Marmion, 79, Indianapolis, died on October 11, 2010. A native of Ottawa, Illinois, he was born May 14, 1931, the son of Edward J. and Francis F. (Foley) Marmion. He was a graduate of Butler University, where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity and played football for Tony Hinkle. A retired Senior Vice President of American Fletcher National Bank/Bank One, he also had served as President of the Indianapolis Chapter of the American Institute of Banking (AIB), Associate Councilman of AIB for South Eastern Indiana, 1970-1974, and taught evening AIB classes for fourteen years. Additionally, Mike had been a member of the Board of Directors of the Indianapolis Ballet Theatre, taught classes on both Management and Medieval History in the IUPUI Continuing Studies Division, and lectured numerous classes on medieval history for OASIS. A devoted historian of the Middle Ages, he had been engaged in extensive research of that period and the compilation of a comprehensive chronicle concerning all significant aspects of the medieval civilizations. As a parishioner of Christ the King Catholic Church since 1959, he had served as a member of the Church Building Committee, the Parish Council, the Men’s Club, and various other programs. He was a member of Butler University’s Ovid Butler Society, a veteran of the U.S. Army and was named a Sagamore of the Wabash in 1969 by Governor Edgar D. Whitcomb. Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, John J. Marmion and Patrick T. Marmion, all of Ottawa, Illinois. Survivors include his spouse of 59 years, Patricia P. (Parrish) Marmion, son, Michael P. Marmion (Maria) of Noblesville, daughter, Melinda A. de Marmion of Indianapolis, daughter, Abigail A. Marmion of Indianapolis, and sister, Maureen S. (Marmion) Bartolucci of Ottawa, Illinois. He also had three grandchildren, Jessica, Clay and Rylee Marmion, and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Dr. David Josephson and Dr. Craig Herrman of JWM Neurology, Dr. William Dugan, Jr. and Sara Edgerton of Indiana Community Cancer Care, and Dr. Pat Healey/Katie Eller/the staff at Marquette Manor Reflections for their superb medical care and family support throughout Mike’s illnesses. Visitation will take place on Friday, October 15 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center – Broad Ripple. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Butler University’s Ovid Butler Society.
