Edward J. Madigan 88, Indianapolis, passed away September 28, 2011. Ed was born on February 8, 1923 in New York City to the late, Michael and Ella (Merriman) Madigan. He graduated from Chelsea High School in 1941 and enlisted in the U.S. Army on December 1, 1942, retiring from the Army reserves in 1981. Ed played in the Jr. Drum Corps from 1937 to 1942 as a snare drummer. After WWII, he played in the Sr. Corps Skydivers from 1947 to 1952 and won the National Championships in 1949 and 1950. Ed moved to Indianapolis in 1952 and worked for Perfect Circle Piston Rings at NAPA. He was accepted as a Carrier in the U.S. Post Office in 1954 and carried mail in Irvington, Nora and Cumberland Stations until 1977. Ed was promoted to Management as a Supply Management Specialist for IN and KY and retired in 1983. He was raised a Master Mason on January 28, 1961, all in Prospect Lodge, No. 714 in Indianapolis. In 1974, Ed transferred to the Cumberland Lodge, No. 726, where he became a Worshipful Master in 1980. He holds memberships in the Scottish Rite, Knights Templar, Murat Shrine; Past President: Murat Highlanders Pipe Band, Craft #78, National Federated Craft; Past Commander: Federal Post #62, American Legion. Ed was a member of the Fortville Chapter O.E.S., Past Worthy Patron and was Past Associate Grand Guardian of the International Order of Job's Daughters. He attended St Matthews Episcopal Church. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Mary H. Madigan; step-sons, Mike (Lois) Haley and Pat (Nancy) Haley; four grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; several nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his first wife, Delores Madigan. Services for Ed will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center-Washington Park East, with visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, October 3. Entombment will be in Washington Park East Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Job's Daughters or the American Cancer Society.
