Edward E. Dixon

January 29, 1943 — May 15, 2014

Edward Eugene "Gene" Dixon went home to be with the Lord on May 15, 2014. Gene was born in Alexandria, LA on January 29, 1943. He was the eldest of the four children of the late Edward (Jimmy) and Alma Dixon. Ed loved Jesus and was a faithful member of GNWBC, which he also loved. He served on the Hall Monitors' Ministry, which was his passion, and on the Missionary Ministry. Ed was also a volunteer for the American Red Cross, serving as an EMT and in any capacity where he was needed. He was a member of the Marion County Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service and a licensed amateur HAM radio operator. Ed was employed by Navistar for 38 years as an Accounts Payable Representative. Ed was an avid gardener. He planted all the vegetables his yard could hold, and shared his harvest, especially collard greens. He loved fishing and teaching the grand-girls how to fish. He enjoyed spending time on the telephone with his daughter during any Colts game, debating the team's good and bad plays. He was also an avid Pacer fan. Ed was truly loved by all who were blessed to know him. The loving father of his only child, Janean, Ed cared deeply for family. He extended that love to many others; he was kind and generous and his quick wit and honesty were unmatchable. He was an example of loving everyone as Christ loves us. Ed leaves to cherish his memory his wife Earlene, whom he met and fell in love with fifty years ago; their daughter Janean Davis (Kerry); grandchildren BreAnn and Halee Davis; brother Gregory Dixon of Indianapolis; sisters Barbara Young (Freeman) of Alexandria, LA and Gwen Forte of St. Louise, MO; niece Jill Dixon and nephew Michael McFarland. He also leaves behind a host of loving cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews, and his devoted friend Yvonne Travis. "For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, neither height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39
