Edward Robert (Bob) Hughes, 98, a lifelong resident of Indianapolisdied January 24, 2016. He was born May13, 1917, to the late Edward Robert and Winnie (Samoniel) Hughes inIndianapolis. He was a retired insurancebroker and a music lover from an early age. Bob learned percussion, trombone, euphonium, piano, and organ. He played professionally in dance bands inthe 1930’s and later played the euphonium in numerous bands including 27 yearsin the Indianapolis Symphonic Band. Starting in 1984 and continuing until 2010,he produced and hosted the weekly “Concert Band Hour” which in its later yearswas broadcast on WICR, the University of Indianapolis radio station. For a number of years he owned and operatedthe Paramount Music Palace on the east side of Indianapolis.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years…Anna Jean (O’Brian)Hughes and by his son, Jack, and sisters, Bertine Eleanor Hughes and FlorenceMargaret Spreen. He is survived by sons,Bob Hughes (Pati) of Carmel, Indiana, and Jim Hughes (Pat) of Federal Way,Washington; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Flanner and Buchanan-Washington Park North,2706 Kessler Blvd West Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46228 on Saturday, January 30,2016, 10:30 A.M.-12:00 P.M.
