Indianapolis

Eduardo Jose Loureiro (Ed, Papaw Donuts) was born March 24th, 1934, in Hong Kong, B.C.C. and passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones January 29th, 2026, at the tender age of 91. Ed was preceded in death by his loving wife Marilyn Sue Loureiro, and parents Fransico and Violet Loureiro, brothers Ray Loureiro, Frank Loureiro, and Danny Loureiro, and sister Ann Loureiro. He is survived by his daughter Michelle Loureiro Allen (husband Gary), son Michael Loureiro (wife Belinda) and grandchildren Ken Allen, Haley (husband Steinar) Jewitt, Ace Loureiro and Izzy Loureiro.

Ed was a devout and faithful Catholic who demonstrated compassion, kindness, humor, and love his entire life. He lived his life as a true servant of God and would give the shirt off his back to keep you warm or the last mint in his pocket to make you happy. His passion in life was to provide for his family and to bring joy to others. His love and care for those around him will undoubtably live on in our hearts forever. Ed will be greatly missed, and his American dream will become a legacy passed on by those who loved him.

Ed grew up in Kowloon Hong Kong, attended La Salle College, served as a member of the Hong Kong Regiment (British Royal Army) and honorably discharged holding the rank of Lance Corporal. He worked for The Bank of China on Hong Kong Island as a clerk in receivables. In 1957 Ed with merely $300 in hand booked passage to America with younger brother Frank on a cargo ship. Within days of arriving he spent almost half his money to provide six months’ room and board for them both. Ed joined the United States Army Reserves in 1958, became a US Citizen in 1962, and was Honorably Discharged in 1963 holding rank of Staff Sargent E-6. Later that year he began working for Indiana Lumbermens Mutual Insurance Company (ILM). Ed soon set up contacts and networking to begin the process of helping his mother, sister, brother, and family immigrate from Hong Kong to America.

When ILM closed their Walnut Creek, CA branch (1969), Ed Loureiro transferred to the home office in Indianapolis, IN where he worked until retirement in 1997. Ed met Sue while working at ILM and wed in 1971, establishing a home they would live in for the rest of their lives. Ed took great pride in the accuracy of his accounting and statistical work for ILM. His love for a balanced leger and fiscal responsibility stuck with him his entire life.

Ed and Sue had their first child Michelle in 1972 and then a son Michael in 1976. Ed was passionate about loving and caring for his most prized possessions, his family. His unconditional love, affection, and faith became a staple and example for his family. Ed consistently gave all he could to make sure his family had all they ever needed and made it a point to make sure his love Sue fulfilled a lifelong dream to visit Hawaii, before she lost her sight. He was adamant to try and attend every game, school function, play or event his children were involved in. Ed made it evident to us his love and support of his family always came first.

Once grandchildren were introduced, Ken, Haley, Ace, and Izzy, his heart overflowed with pride and endless adoration. He earned the nick name “Papaw Donuts” not just for his love of sweets, but for always having donuts ready for his grandchildren after mass, or whenever he knew they were visiting. Ed cherished witnessing his children marry their loves, the birth of grandchildren, watching them grow, supporting all their endeavors, and once again fulfilling his cheer duty on every sideline, school function and auditorium his grandchildren were in. He even danced at his granddaughter’s wedding just a few months prior to passing. He lived a long, full, and faithful life, and was at peace that his time on earth was nearing an end.

Enjoy the Kingdom of Heaven and all of God’s most holy glory Eduardo J. Loureiro, you earned it. Give mom a hug and kiss for us. Say hello to all our friends and family, let them know they are missed. Until we meet again, Dad, please know we were extremely blessed to have you as a father, and proud to share you with everyone you met. We will miss you more than words can express. You were everything a person should be, and then some. Thank you…
