Edna Pearl Williams was a woman of deep faith who devoted much of her life to healthcare and was known for her passion for baking and generous, compassionate spirit. She passed away on Oct. 4, 2025, in Indianapolis, Ind., at the age of 86.
Born on February 6, 1939, in Paris, Tenn., Edna was the daughter of Lizzie Porter Puckett and Roy Puckett Sr. After graduating from Central High School, Edna went on to attend Lane College in Jackson, Tenn., until her father became ill and she returned home.
In the years that followed, Edna moved to Indianapolis where she continued her culinary arts education at IUPUI and Ivy Tech, met her future husband of 36 years, raised a loving daughter, and launched a home-based baking business that would become a cherished part of her life. Edna’s love for baking was evident in every treat she crafted — from elaborately decorated wedding cakes to scrumptious pies and mouth-watering rolls — many of which she gave away freely as a reflection of her generosity.
Edna also built a distinguished career in healthcare. For 27 years, until retiring in 1993, she worked as a medical assistant and office manager for Dr. George H. Rawls, one of the first Black surgeons in Indianapolis. Edna's commitment to her profession and to those around her left a lasting impression on colleagues and patients alike.
Beyond her office work and baking business, Edna was unwavering in her faith. A graceful and steadfast follower of Christ, she served through her involvement in several congregations, including Witherspoon Presbyterian Church, Phillips Temple CME Church, and Immanuel Presbyterian Church.
Edna was the widow of David E. Williams, who died on March 4, 2006. She was also preceded in death by her parents, son Jason Williams, sisters Elsie Anderson, Vivian Puckett and Gwendolyn Ray, and brother Joe Puckett.
Survivors include her daughter, Dehia M. Williams of Indianapolis; grandchildren Jakarri and Jakayla Sparks of Indianapolis; brother Roy Puckett Jr. of Paris, Tenn.; nieces Cynthia Puckett of Paris, Tenn., and Elizabeth Puckett of Indianapolis; nephews Joel Dennis Ray Jr. of Indianapolis and Steven Puckett of Clarksville, Tenn., as well as many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 17, 2025, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at Witherspoon Presbyterian Church, 3535 W Kessler Blvd N Dr, Indianapolis, IN 46222. Funeral services will follow at 12 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Edna's honor to Witherspoon Presbyterian Church.
