Edna B. Senour

February 12, 1923 — December 14, 2024

Indianapolis

Forward-thinking centenarian and fiercely independent Edna Bell Senour died peacefully on December 14, 2024. She was a native of Scott County, Zion Hill, Kentucky, born on February 12, 1923, to Zachery Taylor Bell, Sr. and Georgia Guy Bell.

She spent the majority of her adult life living in Indianapolis and married William H. “Sonny” Senour who preceded her in death in 2003. They together raised three daughters: Joyce, Jenny, and Edna. Joyce and Edna preceded her in death; in 1983 and 2023 respectively.

She was one of thirteen children and was preceded in death by both parents; and two grandchildren; James Goliday and Marvin “Chip” Wilkerson; all her siblings: four brothers, Charles Fred, Whitney, Willie, and Zachery, Bell, Jr.; eight sisters, Suzie Bell, Mattie B. Lyvers, Georgia M. Bell, Mammie B. Ragland, and Frances B. Barber, Leanna Payne, Betty Wilson, and Lillian Marie Devine.

She is survived by her middle daughter, Virginia Washington (Clyde), Grandchild: Chris Washington; Great grandchildren: Olivia and Jordan Wilkerson; host of special nieces, nephews, and a plethora of individuals she referenced as loving “sons and daughters”.

She is also survived by her little sidekick, Snowflake, her beloved and loyal companion during her retirement years. Her heart would be warmed to know that Snowflake is living out her legacy of resilience and zest for life.

After many years of catering (Senour Catering Services) for many families and events throughout Indiana. She prepared for a career change by attending Bryman School of Nursing, Indianapolis, and Daytona School of Nursing, Dayton, Ohio. After retiring from catering, she pursued her dream profession in 1972 as a doctor’s assistant to Dr. Freeman Martin.

Edna’s passion for the Indianapolis Pacers Basketball games became a defining part of her life. Those who knew her would plan phone calls around the Pacer's television schedule.

She enjoyed hosting dinner gatherings and was an extraordinary cook. Well into her nineties, Edna hosted and cooked delicious dinners and would kick everyone out of her kitchen, refusing all help insisting she could do it all by herself.

Edna was deeply involved in her church, Mt. Paran Baptist Church, where she served in various capacities for many years, including:

 - BTU Director

- Christian Board of Education member

- Pastor’s Aid Sanctuary Choir member

- Kings Daughters

- Youth Director

In addition to her church activities, Edna was actively engaged in the community through her civic involvement, including organizations such as:

 - NAACP

- NEGRO COUNCIL of Women

- Indianapolis Recorder Women

- The Little Red Door

- Tau Gamma Delta Sorority

Her dedication to both her faith and the community showcased her commitment to service and her desire to make a positive impact in the lives of others.

The family would like to thank all the “sons and daughters” who visited and cared for her during her latter days of physical infirmity.
