Edna Marilyn Hirzel

Edna M. Hirzel, age 84, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on the morning of July 16, 2025.

She was born on September 23, 1940, in Paris, Kentucky, a daughter of George B. and Mamie Dale (Simon) Vickers. 

Edna is preceded in death by her parents, one brother: Larry DeLorn Vickers, and one grandson: Austin.

Edna was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. 

She married Emil A. Hirzel on April 26, 1969 in Marion, Indiana. She is survived by her husband of 56 years: Emil A. Hirzel of Indianapolis.

Two daughters Lisa (husband Michael) Foster of Clinton, IN and Christina (James Eaton) Hirzel of Indianapolis.

Sister: Georgetta Vickers of Marion and brother Thomas (Barbara) Vickers of Marion.

Grandchildren: Nicholas (Sydney) Foster of Hanover, Pennsylvania, Madison (Ethan) Miller of Indianapolis, Alissa Hirzel of Indianapolis, and Dylan Hirzel of Indianapolis.

And one very special and loved great-grandson: Jett Foster.

Her greatest joy was found in raising her daughters and later helping care for her grandchildren. She had a quiet strength and enjoyed spending time watching crime dramas, sports, and racing on television.

Edna was of catholic faith and was a parishioner at St. Ann Catholic Church in Indianapolis.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

A visitation will be held on Monday, July 21, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Flanner Buchanan - Decatur Township, located at 5463 Kentucky Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46221.

Her funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM.  The Very Rev. Father Joseph L. Newton of St. Ann Catholic Church will officiate.

Burial will follow at West Newton Cemetery.
