Edna Mae (Nussel) Fisher (84), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026 surrounded by the love of her family. Born to Edward and Goldyl Nussel on September 26, 1941, Edna lived a life centered on faith, family, friendship, and unconditional love.
Edna was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 61 years, Richard “Dick” Fisher; her grandson, Lincoln Blanchette; and her brother, Mike Nussel.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Kevin Fisher (April), Amy Cowherd (John), and Brian Fisher. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Dustin, Gaetan (Chastin), Mitchell, Gabriella, Jaydin, Greysin, Daxtin, Emberlee, and Aryanna, and great-grandmother to Theodore. She is also survived by her brother, Garland Nussel (Waneta).
Edna grew up in Terre Haute, Indiana, and moved to Indianapolis after marrying Dick in 1960, where together they built a beautiful life and family. As a dedicated stay-at-home mother, Edna created a warm and welcoming home filled with love, laughter, and the comforting aroma of Sunday family dinners — a cherished tradition she continued until her Alzheimer’s disease no longer allowed her to do so.
She treasured time spent with friends, especially sharing lunches, laughter, and lifelong companionship. Up until her Alzheimer’s progressed, Edna was a faithful member for over 40 years of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, where her kindness and gentle spirit touched many.
Edna will be remembered for her loving heart, her devotion to family, her quiet strength, and the joy she found in caring for those she loved. Though Alzheimer’s slowly took pieces of her memory, it never diminished the love she gave so freely throughout her life.
Her family finds comfort knowing she is reunited once again with Dick and those who went before her. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in Edna’s honor to the Alzheimer's Association to support Alzheimer’s research, care, and advocacy for families affected by this disease.
Visitation will be held on Monday June 1, 2026, from 10am-12pm at Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park East Funeral Center with a crypt side service immediately following at 12:30pm.
