Edna D. Hillier 102, Indianapolis, passed away on February 11, 2012. She was born on September 20, 1909 to John and Grace Day of Olive Hill, Ky., one of six children. Edna is survived by her daughter, Lenora Kerber; granddaughters, Suzanne Poslaiko, Rebecca Swedo and Julia Mattingly; great grandchildren, Phillip and Kevin Mattingly and Karen and Laura Swedo. She is also survived by her step-sons, James Hillier, Jr. and John Hillier and their families and her nephew, Luther Collins (Patty). Edna was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years, James G. Hillier. They were both retired from Western Electric and 60 plus year members of the Oakland Chapter 159 O.E.S., where they served as Worthy Patron and Worthy Matron in 1973. They spent most of their retirement years in the warmth and sun of Mesa, AZ. Edna moved back to Indianapolis shortly before her 100th birthday. Throughout her life, she was a strong and resourceful lady, possessing an independent spirit which was ahead of her time. She will be dearly missed. Services for Edna will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Flanner and Buchanan-Washington Park East, with visitation from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Entombment will be in Washington Park East Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oakland Chapter 159, O.E.S., Oaklandon, IN 46236.
