Edna A. (Mackinson) Wagner, 85, a longtime resident of Oaklandon, Indiana, passed away Monday, October 27, 2025 at Traditions of Columbus, in Columbus, Indiana. She was born November 27, 1939 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to John and Helen (Trissler) Mackinson. Upon graduation from Darby High School (Darby, Pennsylvania) in 1957, Edna worked in a bank in Philadelphia before marrying Daniel Wagner in 1958, when she began life as an Army wife. Those 20 years allowed her to make homes in Stuttgart, West Germany, as well as Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Indiana. It was also during those years that she became a mother, welcoming Daniel (Ellen) Wagner and Dawn (Eric) Chance.
Edna served the communities where she lived, volunteering with the Girl Scouts, youth bowling programs, and as a Sunday school teacher. Her time working with youth bowling programs led to her certification as a bowling coach and working for several years at Coleman Lanes Bowling Center at Fort Harrison until her retirement. She also taught bowling classes for Vincennes University.
Edna was the grandmother of three and the great-grandmother of four – and because of the way she cared for others, was referred to as “Mom” and “Grandma” by several others. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Wagner, Sr, by her daughter-in-law, Sandra Wagner, her parents, and her older brother, Laverne Mackinson.
A celebration of life is planned for Friday, November 14, 2025 at the Fort Harrison State Park Inn, Roosevelt Room, 5830 N Post Rd, Indianapolis IN 46216. The family will receive visitors at 10am, followed by a memorial service at 11am, led by Deacon Warren Robinson. A brief graveside service will take place at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis at 2:30pm.
The family is being assisted by Flanner Buchanan - Washington Park East, and they also wish to thank the kind caregivers at St Croix Hospice in Seymour, Indiana and the staff at Traditions of Columbus.
