EDMUND INGE ECKEL (NED) 64, of Carmel, IN, died February 7, 2011. Born to Charles Inge (deceased) and Eleanor Ruth Eckel, he was raised in Plainfield, NJ until the family moved to Florida where his father had established an international tropical beverage company. He attended Wardlaw School
in NJ and graduated from Coral Gables High School. While a student and member of Sigma Chi at the University of Miami, he worked at his father’s
company. He became a loan officer at Coconut Grove Bank and in 1976 married Anne Planker. When he was offered a position with G.E. Credit Corp., they moved to Jacksonville, FL. Later he joined Borg Warner Corp., was soon promoted to Operations Manager and transferred to Charlotte, NC. When that
office subsequently closed, due to a merger, Ned purchased a franchise with The Coffee Beanery Co. Upon his retirement some years later, he moved to Carmel to be near family. He is survived by his mother, Eleanor Backman, brothers John Laurence (Susan) and Ronald, nephew Peter, niece Nancy Eckel Foushee (Eric) and their four children, cousins Terence Lukens (Anne) and John Lukens (Deb), and former wife Anne Irons. Ned will long be remembered for his devotion to family and friends, interest in world affairs, engaging personality and generous nature. A memorial service will be held at First Congregational Church, Rev. Dick Clough officiating, 7171 N. Pennsylvania St. on Saturday, February 26, at 3 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the church or a charity of choice.
