Edith Smit-Roeters

Edith Smit-Roeters passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at the age of 89.  Edith was born in Rotterdam, Netherlands on September 10, 1933 to parents, Eduard S. and Edith K. (Messmer) Pacejka.  She graduated from high school in the Netherlands and worked in the steno typing pool during her career.  Her greatest and most-loved role, however, was that of wife and mother.

Edith was a longtime member of Christian Park Reformed Christian Church (Indpls) and Good Shepherd United Methodist Church (Indpls).  She enjoyed gardening, needlework and was a fantastic gourmet cook.  In addition, she was also a very skilled artist in drawing.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur Smit-Roeters; and one brother, Hans Pacejka.  She will be lovingly missed by her son, Alfred Huizer (Brenda) and Eveline Huizer; grandchildren: Angela and John Miller, Ashley and Megan Huizer and Edward Hughes; great-granddaughter, Naomi Miller; as well as many other loving extended family members and beloved friends in the Netherlands and Austria.

A memorial service will be held in Edith’s memory at 11:30am on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 2015 S. Arlington Avenue, Indpls, where friends may gather from 11am until the service time.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
