Edith Marie (Asher) King passed away Monday, May 12, 2025, at the age of 94 surrounded by her family.
Edith was born in Laurel County Kentucky on August 18, 1930, to Allen and Mae Asher. She witnessed nearly a century of change and progress. Her life spanned generations and left an imprint on those who knew her.
She is survived by her sons, Michael King of Shelbyville, Indiana, Robert (Clara) King of Greenfield, Indiana and Freeman (Brenda) King of Greenwood, Indiana; her siblings Ferrell Asher of Indianapolis, Indiana, Bob (Dora) Asher of Indianapolis, Indiana, Glenn (Carol) Asher of London, Kentucky and Wavelene (Cleamon) Hammons of London, Kentucky. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, plus a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Mae (Gross) Asher, her husband of 46 years, Delbert King, four siblings Mary Jane Adams, Coleman Asher, Leatrice Lyons, and Burton Asher.
Edith retired from AT&T after working for 27 years and from Wal-Mart after working for 17 years.
She was a member of the Faith Trinity Pentecostal Church in Shelbyville Indiana.
Memorial services for Edith King will be held on Monday, May 19th, at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East, with Perry Fouts and Robert King officiating. Burial will follow at the Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana. Visitation will be from 12:30pm- 2:30pm on May 19th, with the funeral immediately following at 2:30pm.
