Edith Eileen Cornelius, “Eileen” or “Leena”, 93, died peacefully Friday July 21, 2023 of natural causes in her home in Jamestown, Indiana. Proceeded in death by her husband of 55 years, Earl Samuel Cornelius and her brother, Raymond Chittum, she leaves behind her four children, Sharon (Bill) Arnold, Mark (Carol) (Bobetta) Cornelius, David (Traci) Cornelius, and Lori (Ron) Borre, thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, her brother, Roger Chittum (Susan) of California, her brother in-law, Kim Cornelius of Nashville, Indiana, and many dear friends.

Born and raised in Wooster, Ohio, the daughter of John William Chittum and Alma Pearl (Spencer) Chittum of Wapello, Iowa, she graduated from Wooster High School and Earlham College in Richmond Indiana, where she met her sweetheart, Earl. Married in 1951, most of her life was spent in Indianapolis, Indiana, where she worked as a homemaker, secretary for RCA, medical transcriptionist, secretary for the United Methodist Church District Office, and administrative assistant for Butler University. Several years after retirement, she relocated to Jamestown, Indiana, to be nearer to her youngest growing grandchildren.

Known by all as loving and fun with an engaging smile, her hobbies included traveling the globe for years with her husband to their annual conventions with his work and bowling, but her favorite hobby was spending time with her children and grandchildren, driving them to numerous events and whipping everyone at Scrabble.
A memorial will be held in her honor on Sunday, August 13, 4:30 pm at North United Methodist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana, where she and her husband were lifelong members. She is interned at Washington Park North Cemetery beside her beloved husband, Earl.
