Edith D. (Holmes) Levenberg, 91, made her Heavenly journey on October 15, 2014, peacefully at home with her family. Born on September 14, 1923 to Walter J. Holmes and Mary Finnley Holmes, she was the youngest of 13 children and the last one to make their transition. Edith was married to William J. Clas on May 2, 1942 and gave birth to her only daughter, Florence E. Clas Knowlton on September 25, 1946. She divorced and then married Irving Levenberg on August 6, 1960. Edith was preceded in death by both. She lived a life by faith which brought her many different jobs and places. Her first job was as a second maid for a wealthy family at 16, many waitress jobs, an aide in a maternity ward, and during WW II an overhead crane operator for General Electric. Edith went to Hudson Valley Commmunity College to finish her education, and received a diploma in drafting in 1967. She was deeply loved by her 6 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and hadn't had the opportunity to love on the 6 great-great-grandchildren. Edith was a member of Unity of Indianapolis and the Red Hat Society. She had a life well lived here in Indianapolis as well as the one she lived in The Village of Colonie , New York, where she worked as an lithographer at Albany Publicity and the Senior Center in the Village of Colonie. Edith had many friends and family and will be missed by all. Services will be on Wednesday, October 22 at 2:30 PM at Flanner and Buchanan- Memorial Park, 9350 E. Washington Street, with Rev. Bob Uhlar officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, October 21 from 4-7 PM at Flanner and Buchanan- Memorial Park. Memorial gifts may be made to any cancer charity or your local hospice.
