Edgar "Marty" Martin Pate

Edgar Martin Pate, affectionately known as Marty, passed peacefully on Monday, December 9, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born on January 16, 1957, at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis, Indiana, Marty was the son of Edgar Manuel Pate Jr. and Joyce Marilyn Hoffhein. He was a loving father, grandfather, and friend who led an eccentric life filled with love for his family and passions.

Marty’s love for the Lord and his son, Jason Pate, was unwavering. Although health challenges and a childhood injury kept him from serving in the military, Marty took great pride in his son Jason’s service in the U.S. Navy. Marty was a true movie buff, with a special fondness for James Bond films and anything Elvis-related, often sharing these interests with those around him. His unique spirit and friendly nature meant he was never short of good friends, all of whom cherished his company.

Marty is survived by his son, Jason Pate (and wife Heidi), and his beloved grandchildren, Kayla Bailey (Timothy), Darren (Emily), Matthew (Emily), Nathen, and Addison Pate. He was predeceased by his parents, Edgar and Joyce Pate, and his cherished uncle and aunt, Bill and Pat Blocker, who took Marty under their wing and gave him the opportunity to work with them in their printing business for many years. Most dear to Marty was his wife of 35 years, Loretta B. Pate, who predeceased him, and with whom he will now be laid to rest.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 from 12:00 Noon to 2:00 PM at Flanner Buchanan - Washington Park East Funeral Center, located at 10722 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN 46229.

His funeral service will begin at 2:00 PM.  Pastor Jon Lucas will officiate.

Entombment will follow at Washington Park East Cemetery where Marty will be laid to rest with his wife Loretta.
