Edgar Hessong

January 23, 1933 — October 13, 2012

Edgar William Hessong 79, of Indianapolis passed away peacefully on Sat. Oct. 13 with his loving family around him. He was born Jan. 23, 1933 in the family house on Allisonville Road. He graduated from Charlottesville High School in 1951 and attended Indiana Business College and Indiana Central College (University of Indianapolis). Edgar served in the Navy during the Korean War on the USS LST 1144 and worked as an accountant for Western Electric Company, retiring after 32 years of service. He and his wife, Laura Jean, carried the Indianapolis Star for 20 years. He was Past Master and Past Secretary of Broad Ripple Masonic Lodge #643 F&AM and Secretary Emeritus of the Actual Masters and Wardens Association of Marion County. He was a member of Millersville OES # 300, Royal Arch, Indianapolis Valley of the Scottish Rite and a Past Associate Guardian of Job's Daughters Bethel #3. Edgar William was the son of Mary Blanche Steinmeier Hessong and Martin Luther Hessong (both deceased). Edgar and Laura Jean Holstein were married March 22, 1958 in Franklin, Indiana. He was a very proud father of son, Keith A. Hessong, and daughter, Deborah "Debbie" J. Wellin, and grandfather (Poppy) to Ethan M. and Bryce P. Wellin. He is survived by family, sister-in-law, Martha Shank, several cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends at MCL in Broad Ripple. Service will be 10:00 am Wednesday, October 17, 2012 with calling Tuesday from 1:00 to 8:00 pm with a Masonic Service scheduled at 7:30 pm and calling one hour prior Wednesday at Flanner and Buchanan – Broad Ripple. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Donations can be made to Broadway United Methodist Church or Broad Ripple Masonic Lodge.
