Edward D. Nagel, Sr., 86, of Clermont, Indiana passed away January 18, 2024. He was the second oldest of four children, Chester Nagel, Kathy Nagel, and Mary Jo Castaldo. He was born September 26, 1937, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Dorothea Kassenbrock Nagel and Chester H. Nagel.

 

He went to school and was a member of St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church and went to Cathedral High School.

 

He was a member of the United States Marine Corps Reserve. Following an honorable discharge, he worked for the New York Central Railroad as a brakeman and fireman. He was furloughed from the railroad and began work at Darling Company. Later, he worked at R&D Transport where he retired in 2016.

 

He became a volunteer firefighter in 1971 and his proudest moment was becoming a Master Fireman and District Chief of Wayne Township Company 10 until the mid-1980s. During that time, he showed his heroism and commitment to community safety. He was also a 66-year member of Loyal Order of the Moose.

 

He had been married to his beloved wife, Wanda I. Nagel for 50 years. He is survived by three children Edward (Debbie) Nagel, Jr. of Indianapolis, Randall (Allison) Nagel of Cloverdale, and Diane Adams of Indianapolis; four grandchildren Jennifer (Josh) Huerta, Lisa (Joe) Hatke, Ashley Faulkner, and Casey Faulkner; and six great-grandchildren Nadia and MJ Cooper, Mia and Gabe Huerta, and Nora and Delcie Hatke; and longtime companion Linda Miller. He is also blessed with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents Chester and Dorothea Nagel, his brother Chester Nagel, and his nephew Craig Nagel.

 

Visitation will be 4:30-7 p.m. Thursday, January 25, 2024, at Flanner Buchanan – Speedway. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at St. Christopher Catholic Church. A burial will follow at West Ridge Park Cemetery in Indianapolis.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Life’s Journey Hospice of Avon at 10241 E. County Road 100 N, Avon, IN 46123.
