Duard E. “Gene” Wever, age 87, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away May 9, 2018. Gene was born in Bedford, IN on April 29, 1931 to the late, Duard E. and Ruth (Hawkins) Wever. Gene served his country honorably as a military police officer and member of the Army Drill Squad during the Korean War. He worked for International Harvester for 25 years in truck sales until 1982. Gene then went on to work as Assistant Supervisor of Transportation for Warren Township Schools, until retiring in 1996. In his spare time, Gene enjoyed traveling, playing cards with family and friends, bike rides, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, and meticulously tending to his lawn and flowers. He loved music, and you would often find him singing tunes by Fats Domino, Chubby Checkers, or Johnny Cash. He had a keen interest in cars and owned several classic cars over the years. During retirement, Gene (a sun worshipper) and his wife Marcia spent winters in Siesta Key, always welcoming friends and family to visit. He was very much a people person, who treasured family relationships and many lifelong friendships, and was never too old to make a new friend.
Gene will be missed by his wife, Marcia (Brown) Wever; daughters, Karen Wever and Kathy (Tom) Erwin; grandchildren, Graham and Alicia Erwin; and sisters, Joyce Gray and Wilma Johnson.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Duard and Ruth; step-mother, Alma Wever; and sister, Betty Simmons.
