Douglas White

Dr. Douglas H. White, Jr., 86, Indianapolis, passed away on January 11, 2012. Dr. White was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Wallace White and son Bruce Wallace White. Surviving him are his two other children, Carol Ann Clyde of Ann Arbor, MI (husband Bruce), and Doug White of Fishers, (wife Cathy), and 7 Grandchildren, Heather Closen (husband Kyle), Betsy Clyde, Douglas Hunter White, III, Hannah Clyde, Chase Fury, Michael White and Hope Fury. He was born October 5, 1925 in Indianapolis, IN to Douglas & Phyllis (Schneider) White. He attended Shortridge High School (1943), and Indiana University (1947), where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. He then went on to Indiana University Medical School where he was a member of Nu Sigma Nu medical fraternity. Doug was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Indianapolis. He married his beloved wife, Ann, in August of 1949 in Indianapolis. Doug served his country as a Lt. Commander in the Navy while serving as the Senior Medical Officer on the U.S.S. Anderson while Ann and Bruce had a brief residence in Oakland, CA. Then after moving to Madison, WI, where he did his Medical Residency, Doug and Ann settled back in to Indianapolis to raise their family. Dr. White and three other physicians formed the Meridian Medical Group where he practiced internal medicine/cardiology until retiring in 1990. He was a 33 Degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was active in the Paul Coble post of the American Legion, American Medical Association, and Indiana Heart Association, where he served as President. He was an avid race fan and was a Track Physician at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. After retiring from Medicine, Doug worked in the medical underwriting department of American United Life, and later as a staff doctor at the Saturn Biomedical Blood Center. Visitation will be Sunday, January 15, from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at Flanner and Buchanan- Broad Ripple, 1305 E. Broad Ripple Avenue, with a Masonic service at 6 PM. Services will be Monday, January 16 at 10:00 am at the funeral center and entombment will follow in the "Field of Valor" in Crown Hill Cemetery, with full military rites.
