Douglas Macdonald

September 18, 1956 — January 12, 2013

What a Long Strange Trip It's Been Our friend, husband, father, brother and grandpa Douglas J. MacDonald was born September 18, 1956, in Toledo, OH, the son of the late Smead and Dora (Patridge) MacDonald. He attended Trenton High School in Michigan where he was captain and an All-State wrestler and graduated in 1974. Doug was a Michigan State Spartan (GO GREEN, GO WHITE) and obtained a bachelor's degree in entomology. After college, Doug moved to Indianapolis to work for GM Truck and Bus as a forklift operator. He retired in 2008 after 31 years of service. Doug was an avid Grateful Dead fan who loved playing guitar for family and friends and was a guitarist for "The Loosest Band in the World". Doug loved the outdoors and enjoyed mushroom hunting, rock hunting, fishing and camping in Metamora. He was particularly fond of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and the Two Hearted River where he owned and spent time remodeling his cabin. Doug was a very talented gardener. He loved spending time tending each of his gardens and was very proud of his strawberry patch, rock garden and corn crops. Doug was often in the garden, sampling what he grew and sharing his knowledge with his grandchildren. Doug was known for making the hottest salsa in town with fresh ingredients from his garden. When his children were young he took them to El Matador frequently and spawned their love of Mexican and spicy foods. During Sunday football Doug was the life of the party and loved hanging with his family and the "underground crew". He was the Colts number one fan and the Spartan's loudest voice. Regardless of a winning or losing season, Doug was a faithful fan. More recently, Doug developed a knack for scrapping and his driveway was always full of metal. Doug enjoyed the thrill of seeing how much money his collection could bring him. Doug leaves behind his friend and loving wife of 14 years, Kathy. Their favorite moments together were in the morning when the phones weren't ringing, they could work on their crossword puzzle and just talk. He is survived by children, Christopher Tylicki, Althea (Sean) Cooper, Alana MacDonald, Amanda MacDonald, Jake (Stephanie) Nix, Lacey (Reggie Martin) Nix; 16 grandchildren, Christina, Autumn, Zakk, Mikaela, Eveneus, Alysha, Landon, Bryce, Brittnie, Claira, Alex, Ryder, Caleb, Kaiden, Rubie, Adrianna; two sisters, Illyce (Frank) MacDonald, Jenny (Rick) MacDonald; and a brother, Denny MacDonald. He was preceded in death by a son, Donnell Beard.
