Dortha Mae Norris Edison Wesley

The Homegoing: In Loving Memory of Dortha Mae Norris Edison Wesley.

Dortha was an only child born on February 2, 1927 to Oscar and Mamie Norris of Indianapolis, IN. Dortha professed her hope in Christ at an early age. She was baptized at First Baptist Church of West Indianapolis, where she attended Sunday School, Choir, B. T. U. and Starlight Band faithfully for 25 years.

Dortha became employed at Mechanics Laundry, where she met and married Thomas D. Edison. This union brought forth two (2) children; Lorna J. Edison, and Twanna T. Edison. She was also blessed with a third daughter, Mary Wright Tatum. Dortha Joined Union Missionary Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the Senior Choir. She served several years as the church clerk. Always keeping God first, she maintained a close church home with the Pioneer Missionary Baptist Church for many years and finally joined Friendship Missionary, where she remained a member for the rest of her days.

In her free time, some of her hobbies were crocheting, doing puzzles, watching westerns, and coloring. Mama loved some jowl bacon, toast, and hazelnut coffee. She also loved hard fried pork chops with tabasco sauce and a 16oz Pepsi. She had a sweet tooth that was unbelievable: Mr. GoodBar, Peppermint Patties, and German Chocolate Cake.

Dortha was a beautiful woman inside and out, with a smile that could light up a room. She was an excellent listener and gave exceptional advice. Her faith was unwavering and her love was amazing. Her strength was unsurpassed. Her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. She was a phenomenal black woman!!!

Dortha Mae Norris Edison Wesley departed this life on Monday, August 2, 2021 at 7:14am at the age of 94 years old. She leaves to cherish her loving memory her daughters, Lorna J. Walton (Derek), Twanna T. Edison-Adams (George), and Mary Wright Tatum (Sanford); her grandchildren, Derek Walton (Yolanda), Qiana Bolton (Kenny), Nakatra Edison (Tyree), Ananda Walton, Affrekkah Walton, and Thomas Adams (Daeonna); her great-grandchildren, Kamie Bolton, Latanaya Rodgers, LaTereyon Edison, Aiyanna Walton, Avory Walton, Jonathan Porter, Jeremiah Porter, Josiah Hunn, and Johnetta Walton; her great-great-grandson, Artist Rodgers; and a host of devoted cousins, loved ones, and friends.

Dortha was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Mamie Norris, and her grandson, Michael Walton.
