Dorothy L. Shannon

January 10, 1934 — December 2, 2025

Indianapolis

Dorothy L. Shannon, 91, of Indianapolis, passed away December 2nd, 2025. She was born in Robertson County, Tennessee, January 10th, 1934, to parents Ollie and Gladys Rigsbee.

Dorothy grew up in Tennessee and moved to Indianapolis as a young woman.

A very hard worker, Dorothy had several careers throughout her life. She owned several businesses, and had long-standing jobs with several companies. Most recently, she was the manager of Tony Ray Laundry& Dry Cleaning, and retired in 1998.

On July 4th, 2001, Dorothy married her loving husband Ronnie Shannon. In total, she and Ronnie spend 39 wonderful years together.

Dorothy was a sweet, gentle woman, with quick wit, and a big heart. A true girly girl, Dorothy loved pink and always looked her best. But that never kept her from riding on the back of a 4-wheeler, casting a fishing line into her favorite watering hole, or cheering on her favorite athletes. She was Colt’s fan and enjoyed boxing as well. Dorothy enjoyed traveling and visiting her family in Tennessee and Colorado. She loved country music. Dorothy was naturally lucky and used that luck often at casinos. She adored her husband and her family, which included her parrot “Sunshine”. She was also a valued parishioner of Sherwood Hills Baptist Church.

Dorothy will be greatly missed by all who knew her. We all carry a small piece of her in our hearts and carrying this forward, we will keep her legacy alive

She is survived by her husband Ronnie; her children Rick Gregory, Mark (Bonnie) Gregory, and Sherri (Tory) Hayden; grandchildren Ricky Allen Gregory, Toby David Gregory, Jonmichael Hayden, Jennifer Strigilo, Amanda Hayden, Patrick Hayden, Heather Maxwell, Holly Gregory, Heidi Medina, Hilary Cummins, and Liz Gregory; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents, her son Terry Gregory, and grandson Christopher Gregory.

Visitation for Dorothy will be Friday December 5th, from 4-8pm at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East. Additional visitation will be Saturday December 6th, 9-10am. Her funeral will begin at 10am. She will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery.
