Dorothy Jean (Wilding) Baker, 89, of Indianapolis, passed away Friday, March 4, 2011.
Born March 17, 1921, she was the only child of Harold Wilding and Dorothy Elizabeth Alwes Wilding of Indianapolis. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Judith Ann Armstrong, of Carmel, IN; granddaughters Shannon Armstrong (Tim Park) and Cory Poland (Ian); and great-granddaughters Ally and Ana Poland who affectionately knew her as “Dede”. She graduated from Ohio State University, majoring in music. She was the professional Alto Soloist at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Indianapolis, for 35 years; member and past Vice-President of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority at Ohio State and recipient of the KAƟ Personality Pin. She was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota Music Sorority and received their prestigious Sword of Honor. She was also an Honorary Member of Arbutus Garden Club. Further, she was active in National Society of Arts and Letters, Harmonie Club, Lambs Club, Propylaeum, and Meridian Hills Country Club. She was married 32 years to the late John David Baker of Indianapolis and a resident of Hoosier Village Retirement Community for 17 years.
A service celebrating her life will be held at the Hoosier Village Chapel on Wednesday, March 16th at 1PM.
A private burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Gleaner's Food Bank of Indianapolis and Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority Scholarships.
