Dorothy Ann Hathaway

December 5, 1948 — June 30, 2024

Indianapolis

Born in 1948 to Leo and Marie (Guillozet) Monnin, she was the 13th of 14 children who grew up on a farm in Russia, Ohio.

Ms. Hathaway, affectionately known as “Dot”, was peaceful, calm, and devoted to her family and friends. She enjoyed travel, reading, gardening, yoga, and meditation. She was smart, curious, independent, and resilient, viewing challenges as opportunities for growth.

In 1993, she married Dale Hathaway, a professor of political science at Butler University. Together they traveled to China, Mexico, and Italy. Dales passed away in 2002.

Ms. Hathaway graduated from Dayton University, Ohio State University, and University of Louisville, and became a social worker and social activist. She believed in a simple life and lived for several years in a small cabin in Joshua Tree, California.

Dot leaves the following siblings and their spouses: Ursula Pierron, Rosie Lachat (Norb), Lucy Oen (Lee), Guy Monnin (Sharon), Mark Monnin (Lois), Ray Monnin, Leon Monnin (Dianne), and Clem Monnin, and sister-in-law Carolyn, and many nieces and nephews. Dot is predeceased by her husband Dale, her parents, and siblings including Jimmy, Barney, Joe, Bede, and Sr. Teresa, and sibling spouses Gary, Doris, Maxine, Phyllis, and Barb. Her gentle presence will be dearly missed by her family, her husband’s family, and her many devoted friends.

A celebration of Dot’s life will be held on Friday, July 5th, 2024, 10AM – 12 noon at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park North, 2706 Kessler Blvd. W. Dr., Indianapolis, with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to your local food banks, and planting in her memory would be greatly appreciated.

The family would like to extend thanks to Brighton Hospice for their love and care of Dorothy.
