Dorothy (Dottie) Hancock 96 passed away Monday, June 5, 2023, in Avon, Indiana. She had been a resident of Brownsburg since 2005. She had previously live in Florida and Rhode Island before returning to Indiana. She was born August 28, 1926, in Fall River, Massachusetts to Joseph and Lauretta (DesLauries) Bussiere of Oakland Beach, Rhode Island. In her teens she met, fell in love and married James Hancock where they had 5 beautiful children together. She was one of the first “Rosie the Rivotor” ladies during the World War ll era. Her final occupation was working at K-Mart well into her 80’s. She was not one to stay idle. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Tabitha (Richey) Hurley, Great grandson Nicholas Hurley and Granddaughter Deanna Hancock. She is survived by her sister Lorayn (Bussiere) Palumbo, Daughters Barbara Yount, Sandra Richey, Deborah Dulworth, Cynthia Covert, and son James Hancock ll. Grandchildren Kimberly (Jackson) Smith, Jennifer (Jackson) Blanford, Anthony Richey, Leiza Schmoll, Amanda Jarvis, Tami Covert, Timothy Covert ll, James A. Hancock and Faith Hancock. Additionally, she is survived by 16 Great Grandchildren and 2 great- great grandchildren. She was an aunt to 4 children and great aunt to several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was an avid sports fan from the days of her son playing in various sports while growing up until her later years where you could find her watching any sport on T.V. from usual sports like football or baseball to even soccer and golf. In her younger days she enjoyed water skiing on the lake and even got the opportunity to go “break-a-leg”. She was an independent woman living on her own with several friends nearby she could be found playing Bingo or even Wii Bowling. She was found to be lucky playing the ponies. She left an impression on everyone she met. Dorothy will be truly missed. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 9th from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Flanner Buchanan – Speedway. Funeral Services at 10:00am on Saturday, June 10th at Forest Lawn Cemetery – Chapel 1977 S. State Rd. 135, Greenwood, Indiana. To leave online condolences please visit www.flannerbuchanan.com.
