Life and Legacy of Doris Lee Blaylock
Doris Lee Blaylock was born on April 3, 1920 to the late Moses A. and Mary Frances Banks of East St. Louis, Illinois. Doris family later moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where she attended School 42 Diggs Elementary and graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Doris has been a member of St. Bridges Catholic Church where she was a member of Christ the King Court Knights of Peter Claver and Holy Trinity. She later joined St. Monica Catholic Church where she was a member of the choir and other ministries of the church.
Volunteering, sewing, knitting, canning, arts & crafts, going to the museum and family were Doris's passion and delight. She was a member of Crispus Attucks Alumni Class of 1938 and a member of Cross Roads Rehabilitation. In 1992 she was the only African American to receive a 10 year Pin from Cross Roads Rehabilitation Center for her one hundred hours of service.
Doris married the late Learmon Cleo Blaylock, Sr and to this union had four children ~ three sons and a daughter.
Doris' career spanned over many years working at Riley's Children Hospital; caring for other children as her own and finally retiring
from a 20 year career at RCA.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Learmon Cleo Blaylock; parents, Moses and Mary Banks; a son, Timothy Wayne Blaylock; two sisters, Mary Frances Banks and Arleen Hughes; three brothers, Theodore Banks, Moses Banks and Edward Banks
On the evening of September 12, 2014, Doris work here on earth was completed. She leaves to cherish her memories two sons; Learmon Cleo Blaylock, Jr (Loretta), Melvin E. Blaylock (Minnie) all of Indianapolis, IN; a daughter, Deborah Blaylock-Hanes, Kissimmee, FL; one sister, Annie Ruth Roby, Chicago, IL; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Ruth Banks; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
